Train in real classrooms and work with experienced mentor teachers and supervisors.

Every classroom is different. At Murdoch, you’ll have access to the largest range of local, regional and overseas practical learning placements in Thailand and Singapore. With mentors teachers to guider you, you’ll gain the broad range of skills and experience you need to be a first-class teacher.

During your degree, you’ll have the chance to work in up to four very different education settings to challenge you and hone the skills you’ll need to be a teacher. In addition to private and public schools, we offer teaching experiences in hospitals, prisons, education support centres, distance education, and remote Indigenous community schools. You’ll learn how to teach from people with a wealth of knowledge from their own extensive teaching experience.

As a final year student, you can apply for a 12 month internship that will give you the opportunity to work in classrooms in either a metropolitan or rural school throughout the school year. This further hands-on placement means you’ll have extensive experience going into your first teaching job, and improved career prospects. There will also be the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ in the final school term of your degree when you apply for a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).

You can also enjoy the flexibility within your education degree to broaden your career path. Team your Education degree with a second degree in humanities, science or mathematics to allow you specialise and teach in more than one area. Or specialise in Health and Physical Education within your Primary teaching program to give you the range to teach up to Year 10 in Physical Education, and be involved in extracurricular school activities and sports. Our combined degree in Early Childhood and Primary Teaching gives you the flexibility to teach in child care settings, Kindergarten, Pre-Primary and Primary classes.

Once you’ve finished, you’ll have an internationally recognised teaching degree, allowing you to teach in public, private, catholic and independent schools across Australia and around the globe. Or, you can choose to further your study with a postgraduate degree to allow you to teach in International Baccalaureate (IB) Schools across the world.
